CRIME REPORT BACK FOR THE ENTIRE SUNNINGHILL
We are pleased to be able to inform you that the crime statistics for the past few months show that crime has decreased in most areas compared to the same period last year. Of significant importance is the reduction of residential burglaries. At present Sunninghill is averaging at around 2 residential burglaries a week – a low figure considering that there are over 5000 residential homes in our suburb.
What we do notice however is the significant increase in theft of motor vehicles. One or two of these have been from inside complexes but the vast majority are from shopping centres in the area.
From our meetings with the Saps we have taken note that there is a dramatic increase in all parts Gauteng and this includes Sandton of Robbery with Fire Arm. The vast majority of these robberies are where victims have either drawn money or cashed cheques from banks and are followed and then robbed of their cash, often by more than one vehicle. We have experienced two such incidents in Sunninghill over the past few months. In both these incidents the victim was followed by two different cars – same gang. In both cases we were able to provide the Saps with very clear footage of these vehicles from our CCTV cameras with registration numbers. Please do not draw large volumes of cash unless you have no other choice and if you do, take extra care that you are not being followed.
