Update on security issues in Sunninghill

Below are some graphs showing the crime trends in Sunninghill.

a)  Theft out of Motor Vehicle; Theft of Motor Vehicles and Smash and Grabs continue to hound us.  Smash and grabs are once again on the increase and most of these occur on the cnr of Maxwell and Witkoppen roads.  We ask you all too PLEASE not attract criminals by keeping valuables where they are visible.  No matter how many times we warn motorists of the dangers of keeping valuables where they are visible, they still continue to do so.  As the economy struggles so we also notice an increase in the theft of motor vehicles.  Unfortunately some of these have been proven to be insurance fraud.

b)      Housebreaking – Residential and Business.  Residential break-ins in complexes have been a problem all over Sandton this year.  The vast majority of these have pointed to some sort of inside involvement.  Once again unfortunately a number of these have also proved to have been insurance fraud.  I am pleased however to note that they are on the decrease.  Sunninghill Community will however be announcing the date and venue for our public meeting on complex crime, with experts on how to reduce these occurrences soon.

c)  Violent crimes in Sunninghill.  We have been very successful in keeping these stats down.  As these forms of crime have either inside information or inside involvement in over 90% of the cases we urge you all to be careful when hiring staff.  Please ensure that these staff are a) legal and have valid id’s; b) that you obtain valid references and c) keep a copy of their ids.  It would be beneficial doing a criminal check on your staff.
