Inside information assists criminals

Sandton is experiencing more and more house breakings and armed robberies where inside involvement is indicated.  Recent research into crime in South Africa showed that eight out of every ten robberies committed are carefully planned and are are committed with the help of information supplied to robbers by domestic workers, gardeners, former employees or clients.

Unfortunately in the vast majority of these cases the victims of these crimes have no documentation on their employees who either no longer work for them or who abscond after the crime has been committed.  This makes it almost impossible for the police to follow up on the crime and make any arrests.

Residents are urged to make copies of their domestic workers ID, note their place of residence, relatives and keep their contact numbers, whether they are in permanent employ or casual labour.  We would go even further and suggest that you have id’s verified for any criminal record and/or to see if they are valid id’s and not forged before employing anyone.

Lets not become victims of this scourge, lets be pro-active and make it difficult for these criminals to operate in our midst.
